Welcome to the Greater Knysna area - the most beautiful part of the Garden Route!

Knysna, Sedgefield, Buffalo Bay, Brenton and Rheenendal make up the Greater Knysna area and are ideally located along the world renowned South African Garden Route - approximately half way between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth - making it the ideal destination and base from which to explore the Garden Route.

Surrounded by a paradise of indigenous forests, mountains, lakes and spectacular beaches and nestling on the banks of a tranquil estuary, is Knysna. This idyllic Western Cape town is not only renowned for its rich natural heritage, but is a playground for outdoor enthusiasts

A visit to the Featherbed Nature Reserve in Knysna is an absolute must for all visitors. The view from the Heads has to be one of the most spectacular on offer. Outdoor enthusiasts can quadbike or mountain bike through indigenous forests, horse ride in the forests, paraglide over hills and lakes, and dive the wrecks at The Heads.

"If it's Outdoor, it's Out Here!" is Sedgefield's motto and it is no wonder Sedgefield offers more than the average range of outdoor activities. The beaches of Brenton and Buffalo Bay are pristine in their beauty and make for a lovely long leisurely walk (or a good work-out for the more energetic!) and the forests around Rheenendal, together with the Millwood Gold Mining Museum are other places which need to be explored.

We have some wonderful restaurants in the area and guests are spoilt for choice when it comes to cuisine. Apart from fresh seafood (including our famous oysters) food ranges from country cooking to Thai, Italian, Indian and Mediterranean. You will certainly not starve whilst in the area.

The Knysna Accommodation Association, with members in Knysna, Sedgefield, Buffalo Bay, Brenton and Rheenendal, offers the full spectrum of accommodation types ranging from Self Catering, Bed and Breakfasts (B&Bs), to five star Guest Houses. Each establishment is uniquely different but they all have one thing in common - they offer guests a warm, friendly atmosphere and their personnel will always go the extra mile to meet all guests' needs whilst assisting you with planning the time you spend in the area.

With its temperate climate, Knysna is an all-year destination. Summer temperatures average 27°C, while the winter average is 14°C.

Be sure to include the Greater Knysna area in your itinerary and make your stay no less than 3 - 4 days to get the best on offer.
